Why is there tax on my order?
Find out why there is tax on your order and request a tax refund, if necessary.
There may be tax on your order if any of the following conditions apply:
- You haven't enrolled in the Amazon Tax Exemption Program (ATEP).
- You ordered an item that will ship to a state where you do not hold any tax exemption.
- You purchased an item where your tax exemption certificate does not apply fully or partially.
- The purchaser's Group Settings are not configured to apply the tax exemption.
- The purchaser opted out of ATEP at checkout.
- Your tax exemption has expired.
Request a tax refund
If you believe that you paid tax on an order when you shouldn't have, you can request a tax refund.
Note: You are responsible for paying the correct amount of sales tax on your orders. If you discover you either underpaid, or did not pay tax when you should have, you must contact the appropriate taxing authority and/or your tax adviser to remit the tax directly.
