What Is Visual ID on Echo Devices with a Camera?

Visual ID lets Alexa recognize you and display personalized content on compatible Echo devices with a Camera.

Visual ID is available on:

  • Echo Show 8 (2nd Generation or newer)
  • Echo Show 10 (3rd Generation)
  • Echo Show 11 (2025 release)
  • Echo Show 15
  • Echo Show 21
  • Echo Studio with Home Camera (2026 release)

Visual ID uses on-device facial recognition to provide a personalized experience on your Echo device with a camera. When Alexa recognizes you, the device shows content from your Alexa profile, such as your calendars and reminders, skills, or interests.

Other things to know:

  • Visual ID is an opt-in Alexa Profile feature. It isn't on by default.
  • You can delete your Visual ID at any time on your device or in the Alexa app.
  • You can turn off Visual ID temporarily. Press the Microphones & Camera Enable/Disable button to turn off the camera and microphones.
  • Your household members can also enroll in Visual ID.
