Electronics Condition Criteria
During the Trade-in submission process, you'll answer questions about the condition of your eligible item. This page outlines the minimum condition criteria required for trade-in acceptance.
All trade-in items must meet these requirements:
Ownership and Description
- The item must be owned by you and not financed through a third-party, such as a cell phone carrier.
- The item must match the product title and version, carrier, and storage size selected (as applicable).
Account and Data Removal
- If applicable, the item must be unlocked and de-registered from any online accounts, including personal accounts. Depending on your item, these online accounts may include your Amazon, Apple iCloud, Samsung, Ring, Google Nest, Fitbit, or other accounts. For more information, visit Prepare and Ship Your Item for Trade-in.
Accessories and Components
- The item must include originally included accessories as applicable (such as power chargers or cables).
- The item still contains or is comprised of all parts manufactured by the original electronic maker (OEM) or an authorized partner.
- The item has not been internally or externally customized in any way.
- The item does not have any internal components projecting outside of it, such as an expanded battery.
- Important: Original boxes and packaging will not be returned to you, even if your eligible item is rejected and returned. Only send the item itself with applicable accessories - do not include original retail boxes, packaging materials, or cases.
Functionality (for electronic devices)
- The device must power on, hold a charge, and not power off unexpectedly.
- The device connects to Wi-Fi.
- All features of the device must be operational.
To be paid at the highest value for your Trade-in, your device must be in good condition with all features of the device operational. It must power on, hold a charge, and not power off unexpectedly. It mustn't have any breaks, dents, cracks, missing buttons, or other defects beyond normal wear and tear, and shouldn’t have any water damage, corrosion, or significant wear marks. If your device doesn't meet these criteria, it may be Downgraded or deemed a Rejected Item in accordance with the Amazon Trade-in Terms and Conditions.
In addition to the requirements above, video games, consoles, and accessories must meet these specific criteria:
Video Games
- Include all discs/cartridges.
- Game plays as expected.
- No cracks or major scratches.
Consoles and Accessories
- All functions must operate as intended.
- No cracks or major damage.
- Must not be modified from factory condition.
For consoles only

- Docks, grips and straps (if originally included).
- Remotes (if originally included).
- Any other accessories that came with the original package (unless must include all advertised games and accessories).
