Fire TV Home Screen Basics
Your Home screen displays a Main Menu, recommendations, your recently watched items, and featured categories to help you find new content. Use your home screen to access videos, apps, device settings, and other content on your Fire TV.
The Fire TV experience differs across some devices.
The Fire TV Main Menu includes:
- My Stuff
- Access your: Watchlist, Purchases, and Rentals.
- Games
- Discover and play games from the Amazon Appstore.
- Find
- Search for videos, apps available in the Amazon Appstore, or browse different content categories.
- Free
- Discover free content available on your Fire TV.
- Live
- Watch live TV content from sources like supported apps and subscriptions.
- Settings
- Manage your profiles, network, display, sound, applications, preferences, and more.
- Fire TV Profiles
- Fire TV profiles let you personalize certain features on the home screen for each profile on your device.
- Apps
- Select the Apps icon
to find apps on your Fire TV.
Fire TV Remote Basics
You can control your Fire TV device with an Alexa Voice Remote or the Fire TV App. The remote has the following buttons:
- Alexa Voice
- Press and hold the Voice button to interact with your Fire TV device, play videos, search content, and more.
- Navigation Ring - Navigate your Fire TV by pressing the Up button
, Down button
, Left button
, or Right button
on the ring.
- Select
- In the center of the remote, use the Select button to select a content item, function, or category.
- Home
- Use the Home button to return to the home screen from any other screen.
- Menu
- Use the Menu button to access more options for your current selection.
- Back
- Use the Back button to return to the previous screen or action.
- Media controls - Use the Rewind button

Use Your Mobile Device Like a Fire TV Remote
To control your Fire TV with your mobile phone:
- Download the Fire TV app
on your mobile device.
- Connect your mobile device to the same Wi-Fi network as your Fire TV Device.
- Open the Fire TV app on your mobile device.
- Select an available device on the screen.
- Follow the on-screen prompt.
- Use the on-screen navigation, keyboard, and other menu options to control the selected Fire TV device.
Learn to Use Alexa with Fire TV
You Fire TV also features Alexa. Perform specific actions, and watch and listen to content on your Fire TV device with Alexa.
To interact with Alexa, hold down the Alexa button on your remote and talk to Alexa. You can say things like:
- "Open [app name]."
- "Find [movie title]."
- "Search for action movies."
- "Look for racing game apps."
- "Play some study music."
Alexa gives helpful information about topics related to your viewing or listening content and can also do things like control playback.
Many features open in a separate display on your TV screen. To return to the previous screen, press the Back or Home buttons on your Fire TV remote.
Use Your Alexa Device to Control Your Fire TV
You can link your Fire TV and your compatible Alexa-enabled device to control certain features on your Fire TV. For the devices to pair properly and work together, register your Alexa device and Fire TV to the same account.
To link your Fire TV and your compatible Alexa-enabled device:
- Open the Alexa app
. - Open More
and select Settings
. - Select TV & Video.
- Select Fire TV.
- Select Link Your Alexa Device and follow the on-screen instructions.
Connect Fire TV to Supported Third-Party Devices
Use your voice to control supported third-party devices, such as antennas, soundbars, and AV receivers. Fire TV devices automatically detect compatible equipment and provide an on-screen interface to add them.
If your Fire TV doesn’t detect your equipment, or you'd like to set up equipment control manually, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings
from your Fire TV menu.
- Select Equipment Control.
- Select Manage Equipment.
- Select Add Equipment and choose the equipment you'd like to add.
