Create a Personal Presence Routine with Alexa+
Create a Personal Presence Routine for yourself or another household member using a Visual ID profile.
Note: You must have a Visual ID to create a Personal Presence Routine. To create a Visual ID, go to
Enroll in Visual ID on Your Echo Devices with a Screen.
Personal Presence Routines are available on:
- Echo Show 8 (2nd Generation and newer)
- Echo Show 10
- Echo Show 11 (2025 release)
- Echo Show 15
- Echo Show 21
Personal Presence Detection uses your Visual ID profile to start a personalized routine. When Alexa recognizes you, the device starts a routine such as turning on the lights when you enter a room.
To create a Personal Presence Routine, use the Alexa app:
- Open the Alexa app
. - Select More
. - Select Routines.
- Select Plus
. - Select Add an Event.
- Select Presence Routine.
- On the Choose Device screen, select the device you want the Routine to work on.
- Under Do This When Alexa Recognizes , select the desired profile to detect for actions when someone is present.
Then select Next.
- Select Add action, and follow the steps in the app.
You can select multiple actions for the same routine.
- Select Save.
