Adding Photos to Your Alexa Photo Frame

Use Amazon Photos to add and manage your photos on the Alexa Photo Frame.

Add photos using the Amazon Photos app

  1. In the Amazon Photos app, select the Devices icon () in the top right, then select your Alexa Photo Frame.
  2. Select +.
  3. Select the photos or a collection to add to the frame.

Photos already on your Alexa Photo Frame show as selected, so you can tell what's there. Photos added this way appear in the Single photos collection.

To add photos that aren't in Amazon Photos, change the source at the top of the picker from Amazon Photos to Camera Roll.

Add a whole collection

  1. In the Amazon Photos app, select the Devices icon () in the top right, then select your Alexa Photo Frame.
  2. Select +.
  3. Select the collections you want.
  4. Choose to add them.

A collection marked Highlights keeps adding new photos to your Alexa Photo Frame as they arrive. A Filtered for display shows only the photos Amazon Photos selected. To find out how photos are selected, check Automatic Curation on Alexa Photo Frame.

Note: Video and motion photos are not supported on the Alexa Photo Frame. The screen displays photos only. The screen will not display weather, timers, alarms, or currently playing music information. Photos can be shown side by side, and there is no setting to edit the size of these photos.

Give Amazon Photos access to all your photos

If Amazon Photos can only see some of your photos, you'll see a Limited Photo Access banner in the app.

On iOS:

  1. In Amazon Photos, select Change setting. This opens the Amazon Photos settings on your mobile device, so come back to the app afterwards.
  2. Select Photos.
  3. Select Full Access.
  4. Return to Amazon Photos to switch on Auto-save.

On Android:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Android device.
  2. Select Apps (or Apps & Notifications on some Android devices).
  3. Select Amazon Photos.
  4. Select Permissions.
  5. Select Photos and videos. (Older Android versions may label this Files and media or Storage).
  6. Set the access to Allow or Allow all the time.

If the upload fails

You get the option to Try again. If the Limited Photo Access banner is showing, switch on full access first, then add the photos again.

For uploads that keep failing, check Issues Uploading or Downloading Photos or Videos to Amazon Photos.

If the app asks for at least one photo

Alexa Photo Frame needs one or more photos. Switching on full access gives the picker more to choose from.

Highlights collections and Auto-Save

Highlights collections put new photos on the frame as you take them, and Auto-Save uploads photos from your mobile device to Amazon Photos.

If photos you added aren't showing

If photos you added aren't showing on your frame, check these common causes:

Your frame is offline.
The Amazon Photos app shows when your Alexa Photo Frame is offline. While offline, photos can't sync to your frame. To reconnect, go to Fix Wi-Fi Issues on Your Alexa Photo Frame.
A photo was hidden or removed.
Anyone with access to the frame can hide or remove photos without deleting them from Amazon Photos. Check your Hidden photos album in the Amazon Photos app. If a photo was removed by someone else, it no longer appears on your frame. Go to Hiding and Removing Photos on Alexa Photo Frame to manage this.
The collection filtered the photo out.
Some collections automatically select which photos to display. A photo can be in a collection you added but still not appear if the collection didn't choose it. Go to Automatic Curation on Alexa Photo Frame to learn how photos are selected.
