Get Ready to Welcome Astro
Tips to prepare your space before you set up Amazon Astro.
We Want You to Know
To have the best experience using and setting up Astro, this is what we want you to know:
- Astro comes with stickers to help it recognize features or furniture in the space such as: a glass wall, window, or mirror that extends to the floor. As well as a glass coffee table, translucent acrylic furniture, or a space greater than 3,500 sq ft. Astro can currently map up to a max of 3,500 sq ft.
- Astro isn't compatible with these features: curved edges, sunken spaces, flooring transitions greater than 1.375"/3.5cm, and dark glossy floors.
Where Will Astro Live?
Pick a space such as the ground floor where Astro will be most useful to you. Keep in mind that Astro operates in a single-floor, indoor environment, and can't go up or down stairs. Astro can manage different flooring types and transitions up to around 1 3/8" (3.5 cm).
Where Should Astro's Charger Go?
Find a flat surface near a wall outlet that's about 3 ft wide and 6 ft long for Astro's charger. Put the charger in a clean and accessible space away from main hallways or pathways. Astro automatically moves to the charger whenever the battery level gets low or you say "Astro, go to the charger." Pick a location that has a strong Wi-Fi signal and is at least 15 ft away from any Ring Motion Detectors.
Declutter the Area
Before you start Astro setup, clear the space of any cords, shoes, and other nonfixed items on the floor. After setup is complete, Astro does well at navigating around people, pets, and most objects. Objects that are shorter than 1 3/8" (3.5 cm) such as cords, socks, books, and other items aren't visible to Astro. This may cause trouble when navigating.
Check Wi-Fi Settings and Connectivity
If parts of your space have a weak Wi-Fi signal, Astro may have trouble playing back media or performing tasks in those spaces. Astro can navigate and follow without a Wi-Fi signal. It’s unable to respond to commands until you restore the signal. If your Wi-Fi network has a primary and guest option, connect Astro to the primary option during setup.
