How Follow Up Mode Works on Alexa+
With Follow Up Mode, you don't need to repeat the wake word when talking to Alexa+.
When Follow Up Mode is turned on, Alexa+ lets you have natural conversational interactions. You'll see a visual indicator when you can talk to Alexa without repeating the wake word.
On compatible Echo Show devices, you can also interrupt Alexa without having to use the wake word when you are in view of the camera and facing the screen.
Follow Up Mode doesn't work in the following situations:
- With Alexa skills or smart home commands.
- When the wake word wasn't initiated by voice. Routines won't trigger Follow Up mode.
- When Alexa is triggered by a button press.
- When Alexa didn't respond to the previous wake word.
- When your Echo device is paired with a Bluetooth device.
After a voice-initiated wake word, you can follow up naturally for up to about 8 seconds after Alexa's response.
Note: When Follow Up mode is off, Alexa requires a wake word for follow-up interactions.
