California Device Protection Request
Under California law (CA SB 50), if you are a survivor of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, or a similar incident-or if you care for someone who is-you can submit a device protection request seeking to terminate a perpetrator's access to your connected device(s) or associated user account.
The following documents can be used to provide verification:
To begin a device protection request, go to our Digital Services and Device Support page and select Contact Us. To complete the request, you must (1) provide verification of the incident , (2) provide verification of the survivor's exclusive legal possession or control of the device(s), (3) identify the device(s), and (4) identify the person whose device or account access you seek to terminate.
Any of the following documents can be used to provide verification of the incident:
- Signed affidavit from a licensed social worker or medical, mental health care, or victim services provider.
- A temporary restraining order, emergency protective order, or other lawfully issued protective order.
- Police report, statements provided by police to magistrates/judges, charging documents, protective/restraining orders, or other official record documenting the incident.
Any of the following documents can be used to provide verification of the survivor's exclusive legal possession/control of the device(s): dissolution decree, temporary restraining order, protective order, domestic violence restraining order, or other document indicating the survivor's exclusive use, care, possession, or control of the device.
Once we receive a completed request, we’ll either:
- Terminate the perpetrator's access to the device(s) and notify you once that’s complete.
- Inform you of any methods to reset the device(s) to factory settings or a similar state.
