Kindle Disk Error Troubleshooting
Follow the instructions below to resolve the Kindle device disk error.
For devices released prior to 2024, excluding Kindle Scribe (Error Code E3)
- For Windows: Repair your drives by connecting your Kindle to a computer via USB cable. Click Yes when you see a message asking if you want to repair the Kindle drive.
- For Mac OS: Repair your drives by using Spotlight Search (command + space bar) to find the Disk Utility app. Select your Kindle from the list of devices (it might be called NO NAME) and click First Aid.
If repairing your drive does not resolve the error, perform a Factory Reset to return the device to its original factory settings. This will remove all your personal data, downloaded content, and content that hasn't been synced.
- Go to Settings > Device Options.
- Select Factory Reset. For older devices, select Reset Device.
- When prompted, select Yes to confirm.
Upon completion of a factory reset, your device is de-registered from your Amazon account. To use the device, register it again.
For Scribe and E-readers released in 2024 or later (Error Code E2)
Perform a Factory Reset to return the device to its original factory settings.
