Transaction-Specific Exemption Certificates

Amazon can generate transaction-specific exemption certificates, which list the actual products ordered for a transaction.

Transaction-specific exemption certificates are only possible if the customer enrolls into Amazon Tax Exemption Program using the wizard rather than uploading exemption certificates.

To generate transaction-specific exemption certificate(s):

  1. Navigate to the ATEP landing page (Your Account > Other Programs > Amazon Tax Exemption Program).
  2. Select Order Exemption Library.
  3. Select one: Order ID, Digital Order ID, Distributor Return ID, or Date Range.
  4. Enter the appropriate ID.
  5. Select Request Report.

Amazon Business customers can start the process by clicking: https://www.amazon.com/ab/tax/atep/tecdownload

You should receive a downloadable PDF of the certificate when using Order ID or Digital Order ID. Alternatively, when a Distributor Return ID or Date Range are used, you may receive a downloadable CSV report, instead.

The report is returned when there are multiple certifications associated with a given Distributor Return ID or Date Range. The report will contain links to a downloadable PDF image ofr each of the translation specific exemption certificates.

Note: An error message may appear when trying to generate a transaction specific exemption certificate. Possible causes include: the order requested was not exempt and tax was charges, the order ID entered wasn't the correct length, or the order ID was not a valid Amazon order ID.
