How to Activate Emergency Heat

Your Amazon Smart Thermostat's Emergency Heat setting allows you to use a backup heat source when your heat pump isn't working.

To activate Emergency Heat, you must have a heat pump system with the correct wiring configuration. See the wiring configuration guide. If you don't have one of the wiring configurations shown, then you can't activate Emergency Heat.

To activate Emergency Heat:

  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Open Devices and select Thermostat .
  3. Under Thermostats, select your Thermostat to open its control dashboard.
  4. Select Device Settings .
  5. Select Thermostat Configuration.
  6. Turn on Emergency Heat.

Note: You can't have Prioritize Lower CO2 emissions active while Emergency Heat is running. If you have Emergency Heat running for an extended period, it could result in higher energy bills. Only run Emergency Heat until your heat pump is working again.
