Managing an Amazon Family

Amazon Family lets an Organizer share select benefits with the people in their household. An Amazon Family can include:

  • Up to 2 adults, each with their own Amazon account
  • Up to 4 teens, added as a profile or as a teen account created before April 7, 2025
  • Up to 4 children, added as profiles managed by a parent or guardian

An Amazon Family is managed by an Organizer. The organizer controls the group, including inviting and removing members and managing shared settings.

  • Prime benefits, including shipping, access to Prime Day and other exclusive deals and events, Prime Video, Prime Reading, as well as third-party benefits (for example, Grubhub). To check the full list of shareable benefits, go to Amazon Family.
  • Digital content through Family Library.
  • Management of up to four child profiles with parental controls.
  • Device management and saved network passwords.
  • Order history, including video and media purchases, Buy Again recommendations, and address book.
  • Add to Delivery for Amazon Family.

About Payment Sharing

When creating a new Amazon Family, they become the Family Organizer meaning they control and manage the Amazon Family. The Family Organizer shares their payment method with the other adult member. The payment method can be used to make purchases by members of the Family. This one-way payment sharing would allow the other adult to see the Family Organizer’s card details and potentially use them for purchases. This is used as a way to verify the trust and the household connection between the Family Organizer and the other adult member. The other adult invited to join the Amazon Family does not need to share their payment method within return the Family Organizer.

For more information, go to About Payment Sharing in Amazon Family.

Sharing Amazon Prime Benefits

Family members sharing Prime benefits must:

  • Share the same primary residential address.
  • Be part of an Amazon Family with payment sharing enabled. The Family Organizer shares their payment method for household verification, and it can be used to make purchases within the Family.
  • Have a Buy Now US billing address for Prime Video sharing.
  • Have linked accounts through Amazon Family.

For more information on how to share your benefits, go to Share Your Amazon Prime Benefits.

Who can't share Prime benefits?

Prime benefits can't be shared by:

  • Free trial members
  • Student and Young Adult Prime members (18-24).
  • Prime Shipping only members.

Digital Content

Two adult Amazon accounts can share digital content like eBooks, apps, and games through Family Library. This requires payment method sharing for verification which can be used by the Family to make purchases. For more details, go to Share Content Using Family Library.

Adults can share digital content with children and teens (where supported) without sharing payment methods. For each child, they can choose which content is visible and personalize their experience, set educational goals and time limits.

Content from Family member accounts is also shared on compatible Alexa devices. Go to How Do Household Profiles Work on Alexa Devices? for more information.

Amazon Device Management and Saved Network Passwords

With Amazon Device Management sharing, other adults in the Amazon Family can see a member's Amazon devices and take everyday actions like finding a misplaced device, restarting it, or checking its health. Only the device owner can deregister, factory reset, or report it as lost or stolen. For more information, go to Manage Your Devices.

With saved network password sharing, a member's Wi-Fi passwords saved to Amazon can be used to help devices registered to other adults in the Amazon Family connect to the network automatically. The Wi-Fi passwords are never visible to them. For more information, go to Saving Your Network Passwords to Amazon.

Order History Sharing

Amazon Family members can share their order history with each other, including video and media purchases. Shared orders are marked as "Ordered by [family member name]" on Your Orders page in your account and are view-only, which means a member cannot return, cancel or modify an order placed by another Family member who shared it. In Your Orders, all shared Family orders appear by default. A member can use a filter to see only personal orders or another individual member's orders.

Family members who switch from a shared account profile can see the Family Organizer's full order history. Members who join Amazon Family by invitation can only see other members' orders placed after they joined. All members can see each other's future purchases, unless an order is marked as private at checkout or after purchase on Order Details or a member has disabled order history sharing.

What's shared: Physical items and digital purchases and rentals (such as movies, TV, video games, music, and eBooks), grocery orders, and replenishment orders with Subscribe & Save.

What's NOT shared: Gift orders and any order marked private. Mark an order as private at checkout or after completing a purchase on the Order Details page.

To manage order sharing preferences:

  1. Visit Amazon Family settings.
  2. Select Family Shopping.
  3. Select Share orders with my family.

Each member controls their own sharing independently. If a member leaves the Amazon Family and rejoins, sharing does not turn back on automatically. It will need to be re-enabled in Amazon Family settings.

When a new member joins and turns on sharing, their purchases will start appearing in other members' order history and recommendations.

Note: Changes to order sharing may take some time to go into effect. If order history sharing was recently enabled, a member joined the Family or was removed, allow time for the settings to update across the site.

Buy Again

Buy Again can include recommendations based on shared order history across the Family. A member can use the Orders by filter on the Buy Again page to see only their own orders. This filter resets each visit.

If a new member joins and shares orders with the family, their purchases will start appearing in other members' Buy Again.

Add to Delivery for Amazon Family

If another Amazon Family member has an upcoming delivery to the same shipping address, a member can add eligible items to that delivery by selecting the Add to Delivery button.

For items added to another Amazon Family member's delivery, the member who added them pays with their own default payment method. The other family member is not charged for those items.

Each member controls which of their deliveries are visible to family members. Private orders won't appear for other members and won't be combined into the same box.

To keep an order private, place it through Shopping Cart Checkout or Buy Now instead of using the 1-click Add to Delivery button, and mark it as private when checking out. Privacy is set per order, so this can be chosen each time.

Note: Gift orders are private by default.
