Can't Pair Your Fire TV Remote
Try these troubleshooting steps if you can't connect, or reconnect, your Fire TV Remote.
During Initial Setup
Your remote pairs automatically when you insert the batteries and turn on your TV. You see a confirmation message in the lower-right corner of your screen when successful. If your remote doesn't pair automatically, or a "Pairing failed" message appears:
- Make sure that your remote is within 10 feet (3 m) of your Fire TV device.
- Press the Home button
until "Press
to start" appears on-screen (about 10 seconds).
- Remove the batteries from your remote and wait 30 seconds. Put the batteries back in and then press and hold the Home button
again.
- Try using a new pair of alkaline batteries. Once the new batteries are in your remote, press and hold the Home button
again.
- Reset your Fire TV remote:
- Press and hold the Left button
, Menu button
, and Back button
at the same time.
- Hold them for 12 seconds.
- Press and hold the Home button
again.
- Press and hold the Left button
- If the issue persists, unplug your Fire TV device, wait five seconds, and then plug it back in.
After Initial Setup
If your remote unpairs and you need to reconnect it:
- Move your remote closer to your Fire TV device, within 10 feet (3 m).
- Unplug your Fire TV from the power supply, then wait 60 seconds.
- Remove the batteries from your remote.
- Plug in your Fire TV and wait for the on-screen remote detection error message.
- Press and hold the Home button
on your remote for 10 seconds.
Note: If you have seven controllers paired, remove one before attempting to pair another.
If you're still having issues, Reset Your Fire TV Remote and then try pairing it again. Alternatively, use the Fire TV app to pair your remote. Download the Fire TV app on your mobile device and follow the steps in Use the Fire TV App to Pair Your Remote.
