Set Up Lock Screen Security with Alexa

Turn on the lock-screen security setting to block personal responses from Alexa while your smartphone is locked.

Important: This setting isn’t available with Alexa+.

Lock-screen security is available on:

  • Echo Buds
  • Smart Glasses with Alexa
  • Echo Frames (Any Generation)
  • Echo Loop

Turning this setting on and off applies to all compatible devices in your account.

To block personal responses while your phone is locked:

  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Select Devices "".
  3. Select your device.
  4. Select Block Personal Responses, and turn the setting on or off.

When active, Alexa blocks responses on personal topics, such as your Amazon account, contacts, shopping, location, and smart home devices.

Smart Glasses with Alexa (including Echo Frames): Once you unlock your smartphone, you can receive all Alexa responses for a 2-hour period.

Note: If you have Voice ID enabled and Alexa recognizes your voice, you can receive Alexa responses related to your smart home devices.

Echo Loop: Once you unlock your smartphone, you can receive all Alexa responses for a 2-hour period.

Echo Buds: Once you unlock your smartphone, Alexa no longer blocks responses as long as you use at least one Echo Bud.
