Recycling Your Electronics

Amazon recognizes the importance of recycling electronic equipment at the end of its useful life, which is why we offer both the option to trade-in your device and a recycling program for electronic items including Amazon devices and accessories. In some areas, the disposal of certain electronic devices and batteries is regulated, so please make sure you dispose or recycle in accordance with your local laws and regulations.

Before submitting a device for Trade-In or recycling, we recommend that you (i) perform a factory reset in order to remove any of your personal content from the applicable device(s) and (ii) deregister the device(s) from your account. We also recommend that back up your applicable device(s) before performing the factory reset if you want to restore your settings on another compatible Amazon device.

You are solely responsible for backing up and removing all data, including any confidential and personal data, from your device prior to shipping it or dropping it off. Neither Amazon nor any recycler accepts any responsibility or liability for any lost files or data.

Trade-In Your Device

The Amazon Trade-In program allows customers to receive an Amazon.com Gift Card in exchange for thousands of eligible items, including Amazon devices and non-Amazon devices. Even non-working devices are eligible. Visit the Amazon Trade-In storefront to see what options might be available for you:

Amazon Mailback Program

To recycle your devices and accessories through the Amazon Recycling Program, please visit the website of our certified recycler: https://amazonrecycling-us.re-teck.com/.

The information you enter at that website will be used to generate a UPS shipping label for you to print. Simply follow the packaging guidelines and then drop your packaged device or accessory off at the nearest UPS location. Amazon covers all the costs associated with shipping and recycling your devices and accessories through our Amazon Recycling Program.

All devices sent for recycling will undergo material reclamation by a licensed recycling facility.

Amazon Drop-off Recycling Program

Amazon has partnered with MRM (Electronic Manufacturers Recycling Management Company) to provide recycling opportunities for your used electronic products in the following states: Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Washington DC, West Virginia, Virginia and Wisconsin. California:

If you are located in California, you can also locate drop-off points to recycle your e-waste using the  page.

New York:

We’ve partnered with MRM to recycle your Amazon devices and accessories in New York. For more information on the MRM Recycling Program or to find a drop off location in your area, please visit the MRM website at http://www.mrmrecycling.com

New Jersey:

We’ve partnered with MRM to collect covered electronic devices free of charge. To find a convenient site near you, please visit www.mrmrecycling.com. New Jersey consumers who are not able to bring a covered electronic devices to a collection site are eligible for free pickup services. Please contact MRM for more information.

“Consumer” means a person, small business enterprise, State entity, school district, or local government unit that purchases a covered electronic device in a retail sale. Consumer does not include any business concern that purchases a covered electronic device.

“Covered electronic device” or “CED” means a desktop or personal computer, computer monitor, portable computer, desktop printer, desktop fax machine, or television sold to a consumer. A covered electronic device does not include any of the following: 1. An electronic device that is a part of a motor vehicle or any component part of a motor vehicle assembled by, or for, a vehicle manufacturer or franchised dealer, including a replacement part for use in a motor vehicle; 2. An electronic device that is functionally or physically a part of a larger piece of equipment designed and intended for use in an industrial, commercial, or medical setting, including diagnostic, monitoring, or control equipment; 3. An electronic device that is contained within a clothes washer, clothes dryer, refrigerator, refrigerator and freezer, microwave oven, conventional oven or range, dishwasher, room air conditioner, dehumidifier, or air purifier; or 4. A handheld device used to access commercial mobile data service or commercial mobile radio service, as such services are defined at 47 CFR 20.3.

Texas:

We’ve partnered with MRM to recycle your Amazon devices and accessories in Texas. MRM offers a regulated recycling program and can help you properly recycle your electronic equipment. For more information on the MRM Recycling Program or to find a drop off location in your area, please visit the MRM website at http://www.mrmrecycling.com. Amazon’s brands of computer equipment are Echo, Fire, Amazon Astro, Kindle, Amazon Basics, Kindle Fire, and Amazon Glow.

Virginia:

Information on poundage recycled in the Commonwealth of Virginia is reported annually at this website.

Recycle Your Batteries

Amazon has partnered with Call2Recycle to take back and recycle loose used batteries free of charge. Please click to identify a battery collection point near you. Note that the Call2Recycle collection sites do not accept batteries embedded within electronic devices.
